LeaderShape
Last week I spend the entire 7 days at Camp Ihduhapi in Loretto, MN facilitating and participating in the LeaderShape Institute. It’s the second year that the University of Minnesota has sponsored the Institute. It’s reserved for CSOM and IT/COSE students. LeaderShape could be called “Leader Camp” but it’s more than that. It’s a personal growth opportunity for students and staff alike. The week is spent learning and reflecting on what leadership, integrity, ethics, vision, values, etc mean to us as individuals but also as a society. It was a tremendous experience that is hard to put into words.
Coming into the week I wasn’t sure about what I was getting into. My main thought was I’ll get to spend some time away from the office (while getting paid), get to meet some interesting students, and just hang out. Coming out of the week, I have a stronger relationship with those I knew going in, valuable new friendships with those I didn’t, and also a new outlook on my future, my passions and my vision.
If you are a college student and are looking for a new way to learn and grow in leadership I’d encourage you to check it out. Many college campuses offer their own local opportunities, in additional to national opportunities.
