My friend Karla (blue dress)  did the Polar Plunge at White Bear Lake today to raise money for the Special Olympics.  I can only imagine how chilly it was. While I was waiting for her to jump I over heard a classic line.  “Do they have to go under for it to count?”  You see some people would just jump in and run out, never submerging their head.  This lady for some reason thought that...

Disgusted
I’m kind of disgusted that so many people are proclaiming that they are “now proud to be an American again” or that “they are finally proud to be an American”.  Really?  I’m not always proud of the decisions that our leaders make and I’m not always proud of what my peers are doing, but I always hold a bit of pride knowing what we’ve done as a nation...

Invocation/Benediction
When I was in high school I was senior class president and therefore “presided” over my public high school graduation ceremony.  One thing that I was told that I couldn’t do was introduce my classmate who delivered the opening prayer.  Something about “church and state”.  Why does the Inauguration ceremony have a invocation and benediction?  Not that I’m...

Winter Biking Revisted
Last winter I made the observation that people biking in winter are not intelligent.  This is further cemented by the fact that I saw two people biking to work this morning in -15 deg weather.  -15 doesn’t even account for a windchill.  Wind that is blowing normally but also that they are creating by riding a bike.  Seriously what do they think they are accomplishing?

Al Franken: God Spoke
I mentioned a documentary about Al Franken in a post a little while ago.  I rented it the other day and watched it tonight.  It’s good but also very polarized.  Al claims to just be telling the truth about what the right says but he is also, obviously very much to the left.  Much of the movie is him trading insults and barbs with his right wing counterparts; Bill O’Reilly, Ann Coulter...

King James
I’ve been watching the Gophers basketball game and the BCS championship and have seen many ads with Lebron James.  I’d like to say for the record, I think Lebron is probably one of my favorite sports personalities.  Many reasons for this. 1.  He’s a great player 2.  He appears to be fairly humble about it 3.  He appears to be a good family man 4.  He doesn’t take...

Ann Coulter
I saw two interviews with Ann Coulter today on NBC’s Today Show. She is angry.  I have no doubt that she makes some valid points and that probably she should feel a bit miffed about they way she is treated by “liberal media”, but geez, calm down.  One of the worst parts is that she claims that she’s not trying to be sensational with her writing but just joking or trying to...

Stupid Moment
At work we use the web-based application known as PeopleSoft.  In order to access the secure system we use a little password generator key fab thing that we call an M-Key.  Everytime you push the button it generates a new password for you. Yesterday, I was searching my pockets for my M-key so that I could log on.  In a “back to work from a two week vacation daze” I pulled out my cell...

Optimism
Whenever the Powerball jackpot gets really large I always try and convince myself that it’s waiting for me to buy a ticket.  I never do and somebody else eventually wins, but I can’t help with that optimism.  I do the same with other aspects of my life as well.  But it always ends the same for me, hesitation on my part.  Maybe that will be different in 2009.

Happy New Year Back in MN after a nice trip home to the fam.  Started in KY with Christmas.  Then a quick trip to MO to see my grandpa.  I hadn’t seen him for a whole year, which was sad, but glad we made the trip.  After that a quick trip to Cincinnati to see where my brother lives.  Now back in MN for a few days before heading back to work on Monday. PS. I don’t make resolutions,...
